Biography
Hello world! My name is Charnay Norvell and this is my very first novel! My baby! I wrestled with it off and on for about five months while I finished up my Bachelor's degree. I am currently pursuing my Master's in Business Administration. I wrote this book for citizens of my hometown (Dayton, Ohio) but there is no reason why anybody from anywhere can't enjoy it. I also co-founded a networking website for Daytonians called letssavedayton.com which is also where my book I'm Not A Housewife! can be sampled and purchased. The audiobook is coming very soon!

Hi Charnay. Thanks for the friend request. I wrote women's fiction. Have 4 published, the first 3 with a small press publisher that went nowhere. The most recent I self published with an e-book on amazon. Doing much better that way. Readying to launch another e-book soon - now in the proofing stage. It's nice interacting on these sites and learning new things about the "authoring" process. I will be listing my two e-books on here soon. Wishing you all the best in your endeavors! Toni

Thanks Toni! It is nice interacting on these sites, and I'm a total virgin when it comes to it... I have a question for you if you don't mind asking: when you said the books with the small press when "nowhere" what do you mean exactly? Like I mentioned I'm a total rookie so all of this stuff is new to me

Charnay, what I meant was I had 3 books published by a small press publisher. They did all the work for me, but they then elevated the selling cost of the book so outlandishly that very few sold. That's why I went independent with e-books. I do all the work, but I can then keep my selling prices reasonable. It's a dog-eat-dog world, and we're wearing Milk Bone underwear! lol

Lol! Yeah, I went with kindle direct. They offer 70% royalties. Who did you publish your ebook with and are you satisfied?

I went with kindle direct, too. I'm satisfied. I just did a 5 day giveaway of my kindle book and had over 500 downloads. No royalties since they were freebies but a good way to generate interest and get yourself out there. If you haven't already done so, you should check out goodreads.com, too. Another good site for some exposure. Avoid Barnes and Noble - not user friendly at all and a real hassle to even get on there. I'm almost ready to launch my next women's fiction on amazon, probably on here, too. I'm still in the proofing stages. It's nice chatting with you and good to know we're not alone in this!

Tell me about it! That sounds like good advice. I think I will try a giveaway too. I just signed up for goodreads the other day. So what is your womens fiction book about?

My book is a romance of sorts, with some fantasy thrown in about soul travel. They really go nuts over the freebies on amazon. I did a 5-day give away but I might have shot myself in the foot doing all 5 days. The next time I will do a 2 day giveaway. With over 500 downloads on the 5 day, I probably exausted all potential buyers. Live and learn. But definitely do a giveaway. It's all about generating interest and getting yourself out there. Make sure your friends leave feedback. That's critical since that's what potential buyers go on. Just keep on plugging away and don't give up your dream. Blessings to you!

Hi Charnay, Hope all is well with you. I'm fairly new myself and working on my third manuscript, but I haven't published anything yet. I Don't feel confident enough. The only advice I can give is to keep writing no matter what. With each successive manuscript the writing improves and that increases our chances of having a fan club and writing interesting books. Keep up the good work. Your book sounds interesting, I'll give it a look soon. Take care.

Thanks RJ! That is sound advice...keep writing! I always try to tell myself that, but without a publicist I'm doing all the promotion myself and it's hard to stay focused...I'll keep on churning though! Hope all is well with you!
